TT is a 1978 Tiger, which we have owned since Jan '99. In this time we have upgraded the avionics to the tune of £8,500, had her completely stripped and repainted by Mick Alan at Turweston. Fitted a new prop and upgraded the upholstery. The result is one of the best Tigers in the UK.

Performance

Tigers are faster and slightly more responsive than the equivalent Piper Archer, but carry a little less weight. Fuel is stored in two wing tanks giving a total usable capacity of 42 IG. At 75% she burns between 8.5 and 9 GPH and does about 125K indicated. This gives a useful range of about 600 NM, which can be extended further by running at economy cruise.

A nice touch on a hot day is the ability to open the canopy in flight, which can be very useful in the south of France when it is 40°C in the shade!

Support and Maintenance

The aircraft is in current production by Tiger aircraft. Flechair in the USA also supports it. There is an active support group called the "Grumman Gang", which is international, with a branch in the UK. This means there is generally no problem getting parts. The UK group arranges regular flying and social events. To date, about 3000 AA5 series aircraft have been produced.
